The SCYL is a 5-a-side football league for young people across Sheffield. We want everyone to see how much better it is to play football with a Christian ethos in the middle with respect for each other.
How does it work?
The main part of the vision is to have a team leader from a youth group or church and for them to gather their own community of young people interested in playing some football and being part of the league.
The league takes place on one night, at the same time and same place. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to bring young people along to play in an organised football league. You won't have to organise matches, book pitches or sort out referees. Just commit to the league and bring your team down each week. We want the league to be free for players so money is not a barrier to young people playing football.
We want football to be played with a positive attitude; where people give their best and are positive towards teammates, opposition and officials. Outside of football we want to encourage and equip each team leader to grow and empower their young people There is no strict plan of how this is done, each group of young people can be completely different and we want to release leaders to give opportunity for spiritual and physical development of young people in their own way.
We have been suported by the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner. Their office has been extremely generous in their support of the SCYL and we a grateful for their support to us.
Moreover, we have also received excellent support from the JG Graves Charitable foundation.
